Motorists in Murang’a town and its environs are in agony following fuel shortage in petrol stations in the area.

Out of eight fueling stations, only one had fuel which saw the motorists scramble to get it even in small quantities.

The station manager Newton Mwangi said they had to put a limit on the quantity of fuel to sell to motorists to serve more people but hours later, the pumps went dry.

“We were the only station with fuel and this saw hundreds of motorists flock here, unfortunately, we could not serve them all,” Mwangi said.

He attributed the shortage to the high cost of fuel which has seen some dealers hesitate to buy it.

“Currently, no fuel dealer is making any profit because the prices are too high and we cannot surpass the limit set by the government,” he said adding that;

“If the government does not act swiftly and review the prices, so many fuel stations will close down.”

The motorists could not hide their frustrations saying this shortage has affected their operations.

Peter Karanja a truck driver said he was only able to get fuel worth Ksh1,500 which was very little for his operations.

“We are hoping the situation will change by tomorrow otherwise we shall be forced to ground the vehicles,” he added.
