Mudavadi commends Muturi’s leadership as he hands over Public Service Ministry

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has expressed his gratitude to former CS for Public Service, Justin Muturi, for his steadfast leadership and commitment to advancing public service during his tenure.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, Mudavadi commended Muturi’s leadership as he officially handed over the Public Service Ministry to his office on an interim basis, ensuring the ministry’s critical functions continue seamlessly.
“We sincerely thank Hon. @HonJBMuturi for his steadfast leadership and commitment to advancing public service during his time as Cabinet Secretary,” Mudavadi remarked.
“This morning, Hon. Muturi officially handed over his docket (public service) to my office as the Prime Cabinet Secretary on an interim basis, facilitating the verification and approval process for the newly appointed.”
The Prime CS acknowledged Muturi’s efforts in overseeing the ministry, which plays a central role in the effective management of Kenya’s public workforce.
Mudavadi further emphasised that the smooth transition ensures continuity in government operations, efficient governance, and accountability, guaranteeing the uninterrupted delivery of services to the public.
He pointed out that his office would oversee the ministry’s duties and responsibilities until the newly appointed CS is confirmed and takes office.
“This smooth transition ensures continuity in government operations, reinforcing our commitment to efficient governance and accountability. The Prime Cabinet Secretary’s Office will oversee public service duties until a new appointment is confirmed,” he added.

Muturi’s tenure
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, President William Ruto fired Muturi in his latest shake-up of the cabinet and replaced him with the Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku.
During his tenure as Public Service CS, Muturi skipped several cabinet meetings during their disagreement, noting that he would only attend them when the cabinet was ready to discuss the rampant abductions and killings of innocent youth in the country.
Following his decision, Muturi continued to serve in the Public Service Ministry even as Ruto’s political allies called for his resignation.
On February 3, 2025, Belgut MP Nelson Koech noted that Muturi was a man on his way out of the cabinet.
“CS Muturi is daring the president to fire him. He should have resigned if he did not want to work with this government. He has called for it, and you will see it in a week or two; CS Muturi will be home,” Koech observed.
