Mt Kenya MPs: No peace without justice for chaos victims

Government-allied Members of Parliament from the Mount Kenya region have spoken out strongly against the recent violent protests that rocked parts of Central Kenya, condemning what they termed as “reckless and selfish politics” that have led to loss of lives and widespread destruction.
Speaking during a press briefing in Naivasha on Thursday, July 17,2025 the lawmakers under the Mount Kenya Parliamentary Caucus accused unnamed political players of inciting chaos in the region for personal gain.
They dismissed opposition claims that the government was behind the protests, instead calling for full investigations into the violence.
Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, addressing the media, said the attacks were not accidental but carefully orchestrated to target the region’s economic stability.
“The violence and mayhem witnessed were not spontaneous. They were planned and executed by those seeking to destabilize the country. This is sabotage of the worst kind,” he said.
Demanding full accountability
The legislators pointed to targeted attacks on key economic hubs, which they said had jeopardized jobs, especially for young people.
“Why would anyone burn down businesses that feed our families? These criminal acts not only tear down livelihoods but scare off investors,” Kiarie added.
The MPs are now calling for swift and impartial investigations, demanding that both perpetrators and financiers of the chaos be arrested and prosecuted.

“We will not accept peace without justice. The chaos has left families grieving and businesses destroyed. Those responsible, whether on the ground or behind the scenes, must face the law,” said another MP.
Unity, not destruction
While expressing confidence in the region’s resilience, the leaders pledged to continue working with the national government to create jobs, improve living standards, and ensure Mount Kenya remains a pillar in Kenya’s economic and political stability.
They also warned against divisive politics that risk undoing years of development progress achieved since the days of former President Mwai Kibaki, a native of the region.
“As leaders, we must resist toxic politics and protect the gains we’ve made. Mount Kenya must remain united, peaceful, and focused on the future,” said Kiarie.
The MPs vowed to advocate for equitable development and resist any attempts to sow discord within the region through violence or misinformation.
