MP Peter Kaluma steps in to support TikToker namesake ‘Kaluma Boy’

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has stepped in to support TikTok content creator Kaluma Boy, who has been documenting his efforts to care for his ailing father.
In a post on Monday, September 29, 2025, through his X page, Kaluma questioned why his namesake is receiving nationwide help while he is alive and able to assist, inviting him to come.
“Then there is Kaluma Boy. Why is he being helped by all Kenyans when I am alive and able? Come, my boy💪,” he wrote.

Kaluma Boy, who went viral after netizens thronged his hometown following his posts detailing the challenges of caring for his ailing father, has received support from Kenyans across the country.
The young content creator has been single-handedly managing his father’s care while working on a local tea farm to cover mounting medical expenses.
His father suffered a stroke in August 2024 and spent three months in a coma before returning home in December. Kaluma explained that managing care at home has been physically and financially draining.

“It is like he is in a ward at home. It has been hard for us; the medications are expensive,” he said. He appealed for help to take his father to a physiotherapist, hoping it would aid recovery.
Nationwide Solidarity
Following Kaluma Boy’s appeal, Kenyan TikTokers and social media users mobilised to assist. A large number of supporters visited his home in Othaya to contribute, some arriving in buses organised to aid in the fundraising effort.
The public’s response demonstrated the power of digital communities, translating online awareness into real-world action.

Political figures also praised the initiative. Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah added, “Big up to Kenyans who pulled up for Kaluma in Nyeri. That’s real community vibes and true Kenyans for Kenyans. But shame on the government and the Social Health Authority for abandoning families.”
Maraga also praised the role of young people and content creators in showing solidarity with the family.
“Congratulations to the youth and TikTok creators for the massive turnout to support Kaluma Boy in Othaya today,” Maraga wrote.
