Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has urged city residents to boycott entertainment joints that continue to flout noise pollution regulations.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Mosiria expressed concern over clubs operating in residential areas without soundproofing, noting that they have become a major source of disturbance for families.

He explained that while such establishments have been issued with compliance notices, many have failed to act, instead choosing to continue business as usual.

The situation has been further complicated by some clubs securing court orders that block the county from shutting them down, frustrating efforts to enforce noise regulations. Mosiria emphasised that these legal hurdles should not deter residents from protecting their peace and well-being.

He urged Nairobians to boycott entertainment joints that flout the law, arguing that collective action would put pressure on rogue operators to either comply with the regulations or shut down. According to him, the county government remains committed to restoring order in the city and safeguarding the right of residents to live in a peaceful environment.

“Just imagine a club located directly opposite a residential area in Kangundo Road that is not soundproofed. People in our city are suffering from noise pollution. They have been served with notices, but there has been no compliance. Some of these establishments have even obtained court orders to prevent us from closing them down, making our work difficult. I call upon city residents to boycott those operating illegally in residential areas. We will not sit idly by while residents endure this. We must do what is right and restore order in the city,” Mosiria stated.

Prostitution

The county official’s call comes days after he pledged to intensify efforts to restore moral order in Nairobi’s estates, particularly the Pipeline area in Embakasi South Sub-County. He said prostitution and related vices have become rampant, threatening families and exposing children to harmful behaviour.

Following a recent community cleanup initiative in Pipeline, Mosiria said he received numerous complaints from residents about the open display of prostitution, especially near homes where families live.

In a statement shared on his X account on the night of July 23, 2025, he said: “After cleaning Pipeline, many people have been tagging me, highlighting other areas that also need urgent intervention. I even saw it trending online, with calls for action growing louder. I want to assure you I have seen your concerns, and I will act.”

He emphasised that while the cleanup focused on reclaiming public spaces, the fight against moral decay was equally urgent. According to him, children have been exposed to inappropriate behaviour that could have lasting effects on their psychological and social development.

“We will sweep Pipeline completely, including addressing the issue of women openly engaging in prostitution and exposing young children to things they should never witness. Some of these actions have led to broken families and marriages, giving innocent women sleepless nights,” he wrote.

Calling for collective reflection, Mosiria urged residents to help restore dignity and protect the next generation from destructive influences.

“Where did we take our good morals? Have we, as a society, decided to suspend our values and embrace moral decay? It’s time for us to reflect, restore our dignity, and protect the next generation from such destructive influences. I remain committed to helping our women, saving families, and bringing back order, respect, and moral responsibility in our communities,” he stated.
