Inclusive National Justice, Economic & Civic Transformation (INJECT) Party leader Morara Kebaso has stirred fresh debate on Kenya’s 2027 succession politics by claiming that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will indeed be on the presidential ballot, with the full support and blessing of President William Ruto.

In a fiery statement shared via his official X account on the night of Monday, July 14, 2025, Morara dismissed the popular narrative that Gachagua is merely a political placeholder or decoy being used to frustrate President Ruto.

According to him, the former deputy president is not only politically ambitious but also strategically positioned for a serious presidential run.

“Stop deluding yourselves that you are just using Gachagua to inject Ruto,” Morara said.

“Gachagua is ambitious like any other politician. He will be on the ballot in 2027.”

DCP presidential candidate

Morara went further to argue that the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which Gachagua is increasingly popularising, will need to field a presidential candidate in order to generate the momentum and national presence required to win parliamentary seats and negotiate for power.

“DCP must have a presidential candidate for it to have the euphoria needed to win several parliamentary seats that they can use to negotiate for power,” he said.

In a controversial twist, Morara claimed that Gachagua’s eligibility is not even the real issue, because President Ruto holds the reins of power at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), giving him the final say on who gets on the ballot.

“To disappoint you even more,” he continued, “I want to assure you that if you see Gachagua’s name on the ballot, it is because Ruto wants it to be there. By the laws of Kenya, he shouldn’t run for public office, but if Ruto—the Lord of IEBC—wants it to happen, it will happen.”

Gachagua popularises DCP

Gachagua, who is currently on a two-month tour of the United States of America, launched a satellite office for his party in Seattle, Washington State’s most populous city.

In a statement on Monday, July 14, 2025, Gachagua announced the launch of the office, noting that the DCP Party was expanding its presence.

“DCP Party is now expanding its presence with our very first satellite office in Seattle. DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua officially inaugurated the North Pacific Chapter Satellite Office, marking a new milestone in our journey to connect and serve Kenyans across the region,” the statement read in part.
