Nyali Member of Parliament (MP) Mohammed Ali has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the people of Mombasa, stating that no political party or individual can dictate his path as the country heads toward the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Ali emphasised that his political journey has always been shaped by the will of the people, not party affiliations.

“Nobody can control me. My name is Mohammed Ali. I came to Nyali without a party. I came independent, and people chose me for who I am,” he stated.

Ali reminded the public of his political evolution, noting that in the 2022 elections, he returned under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket and secured victory with an increased margin of 10,000 more votes.

However, he made it clear that his allegiance remains firmly with the people of Mombasa.

“I came back with a party, UDA, and they chose me with an extra 10,000 votes. And if I want to go forward, I will decide on which way and which path I will not walk—my path. I will go with the will of the people of Mombasa; what they want is what my heart wants,” he stated.

In a powerful declaration that seemed to signal potential shifts in his political strategy, Ali said he would not stand alone when the time comes.

“When the Hour comes, it won’t be my voice alone; it will be the People’s Roar they ignored for years. The Ground Beneath Me Is Solid. I will always stand with the truth and by my people,” he added.

UDA

During an interview on Tuesday, April 15, the Nyali lawmaker claimed that the party’s SG has an intention of denying him the UDA ticket in the upcoming 2027 general polls.

Ali, who was elected as an MP under the UDA ticket in 2022, affirmed that he is prepared to leave the party and join another party or vie for a seat in the elections as an independent candidate.

The MP said that he is ready to face any political headwind if he decides to leave.

“We have many options on the table. I came as a first-timer through independence; the second term, I came through UDA, and I am here telling him again that nothing is going to stop us from moving forward,” he said.

In his response on April 16, 2025, the Mombasa County UDA Secretary General, Mutisya Wambua, said that Ali’s decamping will not have any effect on the party.

The SG claimed that the party will not stop the MP from leaving; however, it is still willing to support Ali if he decides to stay.

Mutisya, who described Ali as a ‘political tourist,’ further stressed that the MP should refrain from ‘disturbing’ the UDA National Secretary General Hassan Omar if he decides to leave.

“This person is a political tourist; tomorrow you might hear him claiming that he will vie for a seat in Isolo, the next time you will hear him saying that he will vie in Nairobi, and then Mombasa,” he said.

“We are willing to work together with him, but we are also inviting him to come and work with us. But if he is looking for another path, he should look for it silently and leave the UDA SG to do his job,” he said.

The members further assured that Ali’s exit will also not influence other members to leave the party. “I just want to assure everybody that he will not leave with other people,” one of the members said.
