Miguna Miguna: Rigathi Gachagua does not represent transformation

Outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna has dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as unfit to lead any real change in Kenya.
Speaking during an interview on a local TV station on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Miguna said Gachagua’s recent alignment with leaders like Martha Karua and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was a clear sign he could not be taken seriously.
“Gachagua doesn’t represent transformation. He cannot transform anything. Anyone working with Martha Karua and Matiang’i is a joke, just like Ruto is a joke,” Miguna said.
Gachagua’s campaign against Ruto
Gachagua, who was impeached dramatically in October 2024, has not taken a back seat since his ouster. Instead, he has launched a fierce campaign against President William Ruto, both at home and abroad, and is now positioning himself as a key opposition figure ahead of the 2027 general election.
Currently in Seattle, USA, Gachagua addressed Kenyans in the diaspora during a fiery town hall meeting, urging them to support the growing protest movement back home.
“We are here not just to talk. We are building a global resistance against dictatorship,” he told the cheering crowd.
He accused Ruto of abandoning the hustler agenda that got him elected and using state institutions to silence dissent.
“The Ruto administration has betrayed the very people who put them in power. They have turned guns on citizens, instead of poverty.”

Gachagua revealed that he is compiling evidence to take President Ruto to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over state-sponsored abuses during the recent Gen Z protests.
“We are documenting everything: the abductions, the extrajudicial killings, the torture. We will go to The Hague. We are not afraid,” he said in a recent presser.
He added that his legal team is working with international experts to file a solid case.
He also brushed off the possibility of a political alliance between President Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga. Speaking in a separate rally on July 12, Gachagua dismissed the potential coalition, saying the Mount Kenya region would no longer be used or bought.
“Even if Raila joins Ruto, they will not stop us. In 2027, we will beat them 70 plus 1. Ruto will be number four. This mountain has woken up, and it’s not going back to sleep.”
President Ruto, on the other hand, has accused Gachagua of trying to destabilise the government through incitement and tribal politics.
The fallout between the two former allies has now escalated into open political and legal warfare. Gachagua is styling himself as a champion of justice and youth activism, while Ruto paints him as a disgruntled former deputy on a personal revenge mission.
