Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that the United Opposition is compiling evidence of state-backed violence to present to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Speaking during an engagement session with Kenyans in Seattle on Friday, July 11, 2025, Gachagua said the evidence currently being documented will enable them to take the current regime to the ICC.

The second deputy president also took the opportunity to respond to Ruto’s directive to report perpetrators to the police, saying he will instead report the matter to the International Court.

“We are collecting evidence to be able to take these people to the International Criminal Court (ICC). We are documenting everything and will present it to the ICC,” he revealed.

“I heard the president asking me to report those responsible, but how do I report him to the same police when he is the one, and using them to defend those destroying property? That’s why I told him we will report him to the ICC, and that is going on.”

Gachagua on reporting Ruto

This comes after Gachagua vowed to report Ruto to the ICC over shooting orders to the police.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Gachagua termed Ruto as a person who lacks feelings and humanity following his orders, which he says amounts to crimes against humanity.

“How do we report state-sponsored militia and those who organised them to the police who supervised them as they burned and looted property? You are asking us to name those who organised? I named you as the person responsible for unleashing violence against the community that made you President. How do I report you to the same police you directed to supervise and protect the militia as they brutalised Kenyans?” Gachagua posed.

“You have even gone further to add insult to injury by directing them to shoot innocent Kenyans on the legs. You could not even send condolences to the dead. You lack feelings and humanity. We shall report you NOT to the Kenyan police but the International Criminal Court an address you are familiar with.”
