Methu mocks Ruto ahead of planned Mt Kenya region tour
Nyandarua County Senator John Methu has boldly and openly mocked President William Ruto ahead of the planned tour, which will take place in two weeks’ time.
Through his X post on Friday, August 1, 2025, the pro-Gachagua Senator said that the President will be coming to open old projects that were completed long before he came to power.
“Mr William Samoei Ruto will, in two weeks, open the Gilgil to Machinery Road that was built in 2019 and completed in 2022, minus one bridge that has now been built,” Methu wrote.
He added that the President will also open the Thompson Falls in Nyahururu and commission potato farming in Nyandarua.
The Senator’s comments are being seen as a direct attack on the President, questioning the seriousness of the planned visit.
Many in the Mt Kenya region are beginning to wonder why the President keeps returning to launch projects that were already completed before his time in office.

Ruto’s silence in Mt Kenya since Gachagua’s ouster
Since the dramatic fallout and political removal of his former Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, President Ruto has been visibly avoiding the Mt Kenya region.
This has left many locals feeling abandoned, especially those who strongly supported the current government during the 2022 election.
In a recent meeting held in Naivasha, a group of government-allied MPs from the region openly complained that it is becoming difficult to market the President and his administration in Mt Kenya.
They blamed the endless public ridicule the region is facing, some of which they claim is coming from officials within State House itself.
The President’s upcoming tour is therefore being viewed as a political test. Whether he will be warmly received or face public anger remains to be seen. However, with critics like Methu speaking out, the visit is already being surrounded by tension.
