Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has been released by a Nakuru Court.
The Senator who has been under police custody for the last two days was released on a cash bail of Ksh2 million.
Issuing the ruling, Nakuru Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti said that interfering with witnesses was not enough reason to hold the politician for seven more days.
“He has been released on a Ksh2 million cash bail and will be reporting to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters once a week,” Nyaloti said.
She also warned Linturi not to make any comments related to the matter that is before court.
The ruling comes exactly 24 hours after his lawyer Eliud Mutuma raised concerns over his arrest demanding that the lawmaker is arraigned in court.
Speaking to the media at Kaptembwo Police Station where Linturi was being held after he was accused of hate speech, Mutuma accused the police of engaging them in a cat and mouse game.
Linturi was nabbed by officers on Sunday, January 9 over remarks he made during a political rally attended by Deputy President William Ruto in Eldoret.
He was nabbed while inside Rupa hotel which is located in Eldoret town.
