The People’s Liberation Party (PLP) boss, Martha Karua, has revealed what she will do immediately after winning the presidency come 2027.

Speaking to one of the local TV stations on Sunday, October 12, 2025, Karua regretted that President William Ruto’s office at State House spends at least Ksh1M daily on tea.

She described the spending as a misuse of public funds at a time when many Kenyans are struggling with the high cost of living.

Karua, who is positioning herself as a reform candidate ahead of the 2027 general election, said her government will prioritise accountability and responsible spending.

She emphasised that her leadership will focus on protecting public resources and sealing corruption loopholes that drain the economy.

Karua vows to stop misuse

“The leadership of Martha Karua and PLP will be of sealing loopholes where Kenyan taxpayers’ money is being stolen and spent in a bad way.

“There is outright theft and bad usage of money. For instance, we recently saw a bottle of water that costs Ksh30 being sold at Ksh500. We must end the misuse of money,” said Karua.

She went on to criticise the government for making luxury purchases while basic services remain underfunded.

“A normal person in a family cannot go and buy suits when there is a sick person in the family.

“For instance, Ruto wants to buy two choppers at a time when there are no medicines in hospitals and the SHA is not working at all.

“For instance, do Kenyans know that Ruto’s office consumes tea worth Ksh1 million daily? Spending money wrongly when Kenyans are in trouble is unacceptable,” she added.

Focus on public accountability

Karua stated that her administration will introduce tough financial reforms and transparent budgeting to ensure that every shilling collected from taxpayers is used responsibly.

She noted that the PLP’s vision is to promote economic equality and ensure that essential services such as healthcare, education, and food security receive priority funding.

The veteran politician further urged Kenyans to reject leaders who live lavishly while citizens suffer, saying that real leadership means serving people, not living off them.

Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans online, with many demanding clarification on the alleged State House expenses, while others praised her for boldly speaking about government accountability.
