In yet another scary incident, another middle-aged man has been mauled to death by a pack of hyenas at Athi village in Juja, Kiambu County.

The 35-year-old Robert Mwangi was heard screaming for help at around 1:00 am on Thursday night but the neighbours were unable to save him from the crackle of about eight dangerous hyenas.

According to area chief, Sarah Wanjiku, the family was notified of the attack and Mwangi’s body was transferred to General Kago morgue in Thika.

“He was heard screaming but the family could not help as the deadly animals had already attacked. From the reports we gathered, the animals were about eight,” the chief said.

The incident happened two months after a 29-year-old man identified by locals as Samuel Kang’ethe was mauled by the hyenas at Muthaara village in the same constituency as he was leaving a nearby quarry where he works as a casual labourer.

Kang’ethe is said to have been in the company of his friend who fled the hungry wild animals by leaving behind the coat he was wearing.

Locals revealed that Kang’ethe was dragged by the wild animals at around 7:45 am before his body was discovered by a passerby when sections of his body parts had been destroyed while others had been chopped off.

Last year, detectives, through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations cautioned Juja and Thika residents of roaming hyenas that were causing deadly attacks on residents.
