Man goes viral after airing frustrations of failing police recruitment for being short

A Baringo man has gone viral expressing frustration and disbelief after being rejected from the ongoing police recruitment exercise in Baringo Central on Monday, November 17, 2025, due to his height.

Speaking about his experience, Idris Kiprop questioned why being short automatically disqualifies him from work, insisting that ability and dedication should matter more than height.

For eight years, Idris has pursued opportunities to secure a stable job, including training with the National Youth Service (NYS). He explained that despite completing programs meant to enhance his skills, he continues to face barriers purely because of his physical height.

“Mimi nimejaribu miaka nane nimeenda nys mlininyima kazi nikaenda nys nimeenda nys na bado mnaninyima kazi kwani height ya mfupi kwani haiezi fanya kazi,” he said.

Wananinyima kazi juu mimi ni mfupi watu wa ngapi ni wafupi kama mimi na wako kazimimi ndio mnanyima kwani mimi ni nani mr Ruto watu wangapi wafupi wako kazi”, he said, emphasising his disbelief at being excluded for reasons he feels are arbitrary.

Idris highlighted the struggle faced by people of shorter stature, arguing that many capable individuals are sidelined even though taller colleagues may encounter other challenges.

Asks for Ruto’s intervention

He detailed his commitment to improving himself through education and training, including attending NYS programs and courses aimed at building skills and readiness for the workforce. Yet, he feels the rules prevent him from demonstrating his abilities in practice.

kazi watu wanfanya na height ama brain nilipomaliza form four nikakuja wakasema niende NYS nikaenda national building nikaenda class nikafanya ICT, lakini kazi sipati kwa nini mnaifanyia hivi?”

He called on President William Ruto to intervene, stating that he could be employed in roles beyond the police, even suggesting he could serve as a personal assistant or in other capacities where his height would not affect performance.

Mimi ni mkenya Ruto nitafutie kazi kama uko hapo kama unaniskia nitaftie kazi si lazima ikue ya polisi ata naeza ingia police nikue personal guard wako,” he said.

Idris stressed that intelligence, diligence, and skill should be valued over physical attributes, and he appealed for fair treatment for himself and others like him.

“kazi watu wanfanya na height ama brain?” Idris questioned.
