A man who reportedly killed his wife on Thursday, September 9, by splitting her throat was to visit her parents’ home in Bungoma this weekend.
Eric Mutugi, killed his wife by slitting her throat abandoning her inside a hired car together with her four-month-old baby.
According to a family friend, plans were underway to welcome the couple with their newly born baby and the reason that led to their differences is yet to be established.
“The visit would have served as both introduction and unveiling of the baby to the woman’s parents,” the family friend said.
Already, the family had alerted relatives and neighbors informing them of the plans stating that the couple’s visit and unveiling of the new born baby was highly anticipated.
After committing the heinous act, Mutugi took to his heels abandoning the car parked besides the road.
The vehicle took long at the scene to an extent that it attracted the attention of locals who went to find out what was happening only to find the woman lying dead.
The witnesses said that the woman’s clothes were soaked in blood and shockingly the baby was just lying besides her.
It is then that they alerted the police attached to Thika Police Station who quickly rushed to the scene but the woman had already died.
The locals who were angered decided to comb the area in pursuit of the suspect, smoked him from his hiding point and lynched him.
Efforts by the police to stop the mob from attacking Mutugi bore no fruits as they over-powered the officers.
Nyaga Muthee who is the Thika East Deputy Commander said that police are yet to establish what might have led to the altercation which saw the man end the life of the woman.
“We are yet to establish what might have happened and led to the death of the woman yet they just welcomed their baby in April,” Muthee said.
The lifeless bodies of the two are now lying at the General Kago Funeral Home in Thika, Kiambu County.
