KURA moves to curb secret road deals with new system

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a new digital procurement system in a move to ensure transparency in the Authority through all tender procurement processes in the Authority.

The authority announced the Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, where he acknowledged that the move is in line with efficiency in tender procurement opportunities.

Director Kinoti has revealed the system will ensure digital procurement starting the financial year 2025/2026 through the newly launched platform identified as the Electronic Government Procurement System (e-GPS).

On the other hand, the KURA Director has called on Kenyans to embrace the new platform while also welcoming Kenyans to register on the authorities’ websites to stay updated on tender opportunities.

“I’m thrilled to announce our full transition to digital procurement from now on, starting this financial year 2025/2026 through the {e-GPS} platform. This move ensures end-to-end transparency and efficiency in our processes,” Kinoti stated.

Notably, KURA, a state corporation in the Ministry of Roads and Transport, which was established under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, has the core mandate of management, development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the national urban road network.

KURA boss has asked interested suppliers, contractors and other service providers to register on the Electronic Government Procurement System through the Authority’s websites.

“All interested suppliers, contractors, consultants and service providers are required to register on the Electronic Government Procurement System (e-GPS) vide https://egpkenya.go.ke and bid for uploaded tenders,” Kinoti said.

In addition, according to KURA interested bidders are encouraged to keep visiting the platform from time to time to appraise themselves on any advertised procurement opportunities so as to participate.

e-GPS benefits

Worth noting, the new system has been piloted across at least five government institutions; among the government institutions include the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the State Department for ICT, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), and the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA)

Likewise, at least three County governments have also enrolled in the digital systems; the counties include Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Makueni Counties

Notably, the e-GPS, according to the government, is set to enhance transparency and accountability in procurement, reduce paperwork and related costs.

In addition, the platform is projected to help in faster reporting and analysing reports with other features in order to verify document authenticity.
