The Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has welcomed the newly appointed acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, following recent leadership reforms instituted at the facility.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, KNH welcomed back Lesiyampe, who previously worked at the institution.

The management, while referring to Lesiyampe as a visionary leader, also noted that he is expected to contribute immensely to the healthcare reforms in the country.

Daule appoints Lesiyampe

Lesiyampe was appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of KNH on Monday, August 18, 2025.

“As the apex national referral facility, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) plays a critical role in advancing health sector reforms and achieving Universal Health Coverage. To support this mandate, Dr. Richard Lesiyampe Leserian has been transferred to Act as the Chief Executive Officer of KNΗ.” Duale said.

Before this appointment, Lesiyampe served as acting CEO at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where he was credited with boosting the hospital’s visibility and operational effectiveness.

Similarly, following his transition, Joshua Clinton Ombiri Okise was appointed to act as Chief Executive Officer of JOOTRH, whereby he will oversee a smooth leadership transition and support JOOTRH’s continued growth following its recent elevation to Level 6 status.

KNH, established in 1901 and located in Nairobi, remains Kenya’s top referral and teaching hospital as it plays a pivotal role in medical education, research, and delivery of specialised healthcare services in East and Central Africa.

In addition, KNH serves as a key hub for medical training and research, supporting Kenya’s broader goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage under the government’s health transformation agenda.
