Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has launched Patient Week to celebrate the coming World Day of the Sick set for February 24.

The World Day of the Sick is a day set to remember patients through charity.

In this year’s celebration, KNH will indulge in offering free services to their patients including encouraging blood donation drive among its staff, offering free Covid-19 vaccination, free blood sugar and blood pressure check-ups, and championing the adoption of a bed campaign that aims at getting over 2000 beds for its patients.

“We shall be celebrating not only those within our facility but also those around our environment. Our staff will be remembering patients through charity works which will go beyond what we are paid to do. We will also be renewing our call to service,” Dr Irene Inwani, the director in charge of clinical officers, said.

Following the initiative, a patient who is currently undergoing cervical cancer treatment at the hospital has thanked the facility for giving hope to patients.

“I began my cervical cancer treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital in 2019 after its doctors managed to identify the disease as early as possible. The guidance and counselling sessions the doctors have offered me since I came here have given me hope to live,” the patient only identified as Betty said.

During the launch of the day, Nairobi Diocese Archbishop Philip Anyolo called on the Kenyatta National Hospital staff to continue serving their patients with due diligence in a manner that gives them hope for a better tomorrow.
