FKF boss Hussein Mohammed vows to make FKF PL best league in Africa

Football Kenya Federation boss Husssein Mohammed has declared an ambitious mission to transform the Kenyan Premier League into the number one domestic football competition on the African continent.
In a statement on Thursday, May 4, 2026, during the end-of-season awards gala in Nairobi, Mohammed acknowledged the immense role played by the new league sponsors and broadcast partner as he lauded their continued investment in Kenyan football.
The president also extended his praise to the technical aspect of the game, congratulating individual award winners—headlined by Gor Mahia’s double-award winner Enock Morrison and Murang’a Seal’s Joe Waithira—for their hard work and resilience through the season.
Morrison bagged the Most Valuable Player and the best midfielder accolade to cap off a fine outing for the Gor Mahia No. 6 midfield maestro.

“Congratulations to every award winner at the League Gala Awards. You embody the resilience, skill, and teamwork that made the 2025/26 campaign truly remarkable,” he said.
Uplifting the game
He shared that in line with promoting football standards across the country and continent, his administration was intent on uplifting the game levels to make it the best league on the continent.
“To SportPesa, thank you for your continued investment in Kenyan football; to Azam, our broadcast partner, your support has been invaluable in bringing the game to fans; let’s keep the game together. “Our ambition is clear; together, we will make the league the number one football league in Africa,” he posited.
In other playing categories, Muranga Seal’s mercurial skipper, Joe Waithira, was feted as the Golden Boot award winner, the gong duly acknowledging his impressive finishing prowess as the league’s top scorer with 19 goals.
Mara Sugar’s defender, Jimmy Owili, beat Abud Omar and Kayci Odhiambo in the best defender category. The left back emerged as the surprise winner for the awards after his exploits that saw him top the assist charts for the players tasked with preventing goals.
Title-winning coach Charles Akonnor was named the coach of the season after winning his first league title since taking over the reins at K’Ogalo. He shrugged off competition from Sammy Omollo of APS Bomet and AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani, whose team emerged as the league’s runners-up.
