Kioni asks Kenyans to judge Matiang’i by his actions as Interior CS
Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has called on Kenyans to assess Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s government record as the party endorses him as its presidential flagbearer for the 2027 elections.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, November 3, 2025, Kioni highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability, urging voters to look beyond party endorsements and examine the decisions and actions taken during Matiangi’s tenure in government.
Kioni referred to key events during Matiangi’s time as Interior CS, including the River Yala killings and the deportation of former Nairobi County gubernatorial aspirant Miguna Miguna.
He emphasised that these episodes, among others, should inform public discussions on leadership credibility.

He said, “I would love to have him come and answer these matters. Every Kenyan should consider the track record of leaders before endorsing them for higher office.”
Kioni also stressed that legal and constitutional mechanisms exist to hold leaders accountable for their actions while in office, a shift introduced by the 2010 Constitution.

The Jubilee party recently confirmed Matiangi as its 2027 presidential flagbearer and appointed him deputy party leader, formalising his position within the party hierarchy. Kioni, however, underlined that party endorsements should not replace public scrutiny.
“Leadership is more than popularity or party backing. Voters must evaluate what has been done and what remains unresolved. This is critical for Kenya’s democratic growth,” he added.
Kioni further noted that the 2010 Constitution allows scrutiny of past officeholders, unlike the 1963 Constitution, which granted them immunity. He said the law now empowers citizens and institutions to question decisions made by former leaders.
“One of the achievements of the 2010 Constitution was that it opened the way for us to review the actions of those who were in office. The old order did not allow that,” Kioni said.
He urged Kenyans to focus on facts, not propaganda, when evaluating Matiangi’s record. Kioni maintained that Jubilee’s legacy in education, governance, and integrity remains strong, and that Kenyans are the best judges of leadership based on tangible outcomes.
