Kindiki warns opposition of gruelling contest when Ruto enters campaign trail

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned the opposition to brace for a political showdown of intense fireworks when President William Ruto officially hits the campaign trail for the 2027 polls.
Speaking in Njoro, Nakuru County, on Friday, August 1, 2025, Kindiki stated that the Kenya Kwanza regime has not yet started campaigning, adding that it would be a different scene when Ruto kicks off his re-election bid
“Campaigns are not yet here. Ruto has not even started campaigning. He is yet to kickstart his bid for re-election. When he does, it will all be fireworks, and they will not believe it,” he stated.
The DP also defended the much-maligned empowerment drives, citing their significance in providing employment activities to disadvantaged people in society.
We are here to empower groups. I hear we have some people in Nairobi with loads of cash who don’t want us to give out this empowerment money. Should we stop this program of standing with wananchi and giving out money to expand business?” he asked.
“You know, we have youths who are not employed. The government has ensured we employ more teachers, and we will be adding more to the list come December,” he said.
Swipe at the opposition
While taking a swipe at the opposition politicians, Kindiki challenged them to adopt a tangible agenda to base their campaigns on when they meet Kenyans. The DP stated that Kenya Kwanza stands vindicated with the numerous projects they have done as they seek to earn a second term from Kenyans.
“As the two-term team, we have the numerous works we have undertaken that will vindicate us. We have projects for roads, housing, and those for employment creation. It is what we have placed before Kenyans. We want those who campaign against us to also reveal theirs; they should leave the politics of incitement and tell us their agenda. They were once in leadership roles and should reveal what they did during their tenure,” he added.

His remarks come days after he made a bold political prediction, stating that the Maasai community will vote overwhelmingly for President William Ruto’s camp in the 2027 polls.
Speaking during an event at Kajiado on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Kindiki termed the assertion on the growing influence of UDA in the region, citing Kajiado Central MP Memusi Kanchory’s switch to the ruling party from the Orange Democratic Party (ODM).
“Memusi has been in Raila’s camp for a long time. Now that he has entered our team, I know you had a good reason to elect him again. I am now convinced that the Maasai vote will be in one basket, that of William Ruto and two terms,” he added.
