Kindiki mourns death of KNCHR Chairperson Roseline Odede

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has expressed his condolences following the untimely death of Roseline Odede, the chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

In a statement shared via his X account on Saturday, January 4, 2025, Kindiki described Roseline as a committed legal professional and an unwavering advocate for human rights and democracy.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and colleagues of Roseline Odede… Roseline was a profound and dedicated legal professional and an unapologetic advocate for the rights and freedoms of all people. She believed in the transformative power of liberty and worked hard throughout her career for the improvement of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights,” Kindiki stated.

KNCHR on death of Odede

The KNCHR confirmed that Roseline passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, after a short illness. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the commission’s Vice Chairperson, Raymond Nyeris.

Nyeris conveyed the commission’s sorrow and emphasized her death’s significant loss for the organization and the nation.

“It is with shock and deep sorrow that I inform you of the demise of Roseline Odhiambo Odede, HSC, Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights… Her untimely death is a big blow to the commission and the nation at large,” he noted.

Nyeris eulogized Roseline as a dedicated leader whose commitment to advancing human rights had left an indelible mark on the commission. He further encouraged the public to celebrate her life and legacy, emphasizing that her work would continue to inspire KNCHR’s mission.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris also mourned Roseline’s passing. She highlighted her legacy as a fearless advocate for human rights and extended her sympathies to Roseline’s family during this difficult time.

“We are profoundly saddened by the death of Roseline Odhiambo Odede, Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights. Her legacy as a fierce advocate for human rights will continue to inspire future generations. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family as they navigate this immense loss,” Passaris expressed.
