Kindiki hosts Nyeri’s Kahiga and other leaders in Karen

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has met with a section of Governors ahead of the scheduled Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County.
Taking to his official and verified Facebook handle on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the second in command shared photos from the closed-door meeting held at his Karen residence, showing him in conversation with several governors, including Nyeri’s Mutahi Kahiga, Homa Bay’s Gladys Wanga, among other attendees.
According to Kindiki, the leaders were receiving the final report from the national steering committee in charge of organising the 9th Annual Devolution Conference, which is set to take place next week in Homa Bay County.
Devolution Theme
Kindiki said the conference would focus on the timely and urgent theme of equity, inclusion, and social justice, with special attention on how devolved units can help reduce regional disparities and foster national cohesion.
“The 9th Annual Devolution Conference will be held in Homabay County next week, with the apt theme on equity, inclusion and social justice,” Kindiki said in a brief caption that accompanied the photos on social media.

President William Ruto is expected to open the high-level forum, while other guests include county development stakeholders, foreign diplomats, and members of the private sector who partner with counties on service delivery.
Kindiki and Kahiga meet
The Devolution Conference is held annually to take stock of progress made in the counties, share best practices, and re-energise commitment to devolved governance as outlined in the Constitution.
Notably present during the Karen meeting was Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a vocal critic of Kindiki and close political ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kahiga has publicly stood by Gachagua during his impeachment battle and is often referred to as Gachagua’s “number one defender” in Mount Kenya politics.
However, in Thursday’s meeting, both Kindiki and Kahiga maintained a calm and diplomatic tone, with insiders describing the engagements as “cordial and focused on the bigger picture of devolution.”
