Kiambu senator to Ruto: Stop pleading, just do what’s right

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa has delivered a blunt message to President William Ruto, urging him to stop pleading with Kenyans and instead act decisively in line with the people’s demands.
The senator’s comments come as pressure mounts on the Kenya Kwanza administration to address grievances ranging from the high cost of living to accusations of arrogance and detachment from public concerns.
In a bold statement on his X account on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the outspoken senator accused the president and his allies of ignoring the cries of ordinary citizens, particularly amid growing dissatisfaction with the government’s economic policies and leadership approach.
“Don’t plead, just do the RIGHT thing,” Thangwa. Just listen to the people and only do as they wish,” the statement read.

Ruto has recently made several public appeals for understanding and patience, a tone that Thang’wa has rejected outright.
“President Ruto and his troops are still not getting it. Kenyans have spoken loudly and clearly, yet the leadership continues to act as if it’s business as usual. The time for talk is over. Action is what matters now,” Thang’wa Charged.

Ruto bareknuckled?
Thang’wa, a member of the United Opposition, has increasingly taken a critical aligning himself with a growing number of leaders calling for a shift in how the government engages with the public.
“It’s not about political loyalty or saving face. It’s about leadership. Leadership means listening, not lecturing. It means acting on the people’s pain, not explaining it away,” the legislator said in a past interview.
He warned the Head of State that political rhetoric alone would not calm the public mood.
With political temperatures rising and cracks beginning to show within Kenya Kwanza’s ranks, Senator Thangwa’s utterances add to the growing calls for introspection and urgent course correction at the highest levels of government.
“Kenya doesn’t need another speech. Kenya needs leadership,” he asserted.
On his part, Ruto has challenged the opposition to present options that would drive the country forward, even as the critics continue to beef up their camp ahead of the 2027 polls.
“My time will come, and I will go. For now, please give me space to do what I promised the great people of Kenya. If you have better options, bring them forward. I’m focused on development,” Ruto appealed.
