Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale has taken bragging rights after he presided over the reopening of a toilet at Muliro Gardens, which he says had stopped operations over a fight between Governor Fernandes Barasa and the People Living With Disabilities (PLWD).

Khalwale, who on Monday, April 7, 2025, launched the toilet, accused Governor Barasa of planning to snatch the running of this facility from the Kakamega PLWD.

Speaking while launching the toilet, Khalwale took credit for what he termed as the fight to ensure that the running of the facility does not go to the county government of Kakamega.

Khalwale and Barasa spat

Khalwale claimed that he had warned Governor Barasa over the weekend that he would be at Muliro Gardens on Monday morning to launch the toilet and dared him to show up with the aim of preventing the reopening if he was man enough.

Toilet fight taken to court

He went ahead to argue that he had obtained a court order allowing the reopening of the toilet and laughed off the county boss for rushing to the Court of Appeal to block the reopening, only for his request to be thrown away.

In a social media post made after the reopening of the toilet, Khalwale accused the governor of planning to hand over the running of the facility to his relatives.

“Presiding over the reopening of the Muliro Gardens Ico-toilet. We thank the Court of Appeal for thwarting @BarasaFernandes attempt to snatch the running of this facility from the Kakamega PLWD so as to gift it to his relatives,” Khalwale stated.
