Kenya Power releases blackout schedule for Tuesday, October 21

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has announced a scheduled power blackout for parts of Bungoma County on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
In a notice issued on Monday, October 20, 2025, the company said the outage is part of ongoing maintenance work meant to boost the reliability and safety of electricity supply in the Western Region. The exercise is expected to run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Kenya Power reveals areas to experience blackout
In an official message to customers, Kenya Power stated: “Good Evening, please receive scheduled power maintenance for tomorrow, Tuesday (21/10/2025).”
According to the company, the power interruption will affect several areas within Bungoma County, including Hongera Millers, Pan Africa Chemical, Kenol Kobil, Tachoni, Jaggary, Teresia Primary School, Kivai Secondary School, Matete, Chabadia Factory, Chimoi Market, Lwandeti, Kaburengu, and nearby customers.
Kenya Power has urged residents and business owners in the affected areas to plan ahead and ensure that electrical appliances are switched off during the outage to prevent possible damage once power is restored.
The company explained that the scheduled maintenance is part of regular work aimed at reducing unplanned outages and improving the quality of electricity supply.
It also noted that such maintenance helps replace worn-out power lines, repair faulty transformers, and enhance safety across the network.

Residents have been encouraged to prepare early, store enough water, and make sure essential equipment is properly managed throughout the blackout period. Kenya Power expressed gratitude to customers for their patience and understanding, saying these efforts are vital to providing a more stable and efficient power supply across the country.
Although this is not the first time Kenya Power has issued such a notice, the company continues to roll out planned maintenance in various regions to strengthen the electricity network and meet the country’s growing energy demand.
How to save on electricity bills
Saving power is not only good for the environment but also helps reduce monthly expenses. Experts recommend using energy-saving bulbs because they consume less electricity and last much longer than regular ones.
Turning off lights, televisions, and other appliances when they are not in use can also make a big difference.
Another useful tip is to unplug chargers and electronic devices when they are not in use, since they continue to draw small amounts of power even when idle.
Ironing clothes in bulk instead of one at a time helps reduce energy waste, while avoiding heavy appliances such as electric heaters and washing machines during peak hours can further lower bills.
It is also wise to keep wiring and electrical equipment in good condition. Faulty wiring or loose connections can increase power use and create safety risks.
Reporting electrical problems to a qualified technician early can prevent bigger issues later. Small, consistent habits like these can help families and businesses manage their energy costs more effectively.
