Kenya Power lists parts of 4 counties set for blackout on Sunday

Kenya Power has announced a planned power maintenance schedule that will affect several counties on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
The electricity interruptions are set to begin at 7:00 am and end at 3:00 pm in most areas, with the exception of Maktau in Taita Taveta County, where the outage will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The company said the temporary shutdown is necessary to allow for routine maintenance work on its power lines and equipment.
The affected counties include Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, and Taita Taveta. Areas in these counties will experience power outages throughout the day as engineers carry out critical upgrades and repairs aimed at improving electricity supply reliability.
Mt Kenya region
In Nyeri County, areas that will be affected include Karatina Town, Mukurweini Town, Gikondi, Mweiga, Tetu, and the whole of Nyeri Town. Key institutions such as Karatina University, Jamii Hospital, Central Kenya Coffee Millers, Mukurweini Hospital, and Mt. Kenya Academy are among those expected to be impacted. Other areas include residential estates, shopping centres, markets, schools, and surrounding villages.
In Kirinyaga County, the outage will affect Difathers Market and neighbouring villages such as Kamunyange, Kathirika, Mbiri, Gacatha, Kiamutugu, and Kiambui. Several markets, schools, health centres, and rice mills in Wanguru, Thiba, and Kiamugumo will also be affected.
Laikipia County will also face widespread outages, especially in Nanyuki Town and its surroundings, including Thingithu Estate, Laikipia Air Base, British Army Training Unit Kenya, Nanyuki General Hospital, and Fairmont Safari Club. Rural farming areas such as Sirimon, Kararu, and Ngobit, as well as tourist facilities like Sweetwaters and Bantu Lodge, will also experience power loss.

Coast region
In the Coast region, Maktau in Taita Taveta County is the only area listed for power interruption. The power will be off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Areas affected include KWS Maktau, Lumo Conservancy, Hotels Godoma, Kwa Mnewnga, and nearby communities.
Kenya Power has advised residents in all affected areas to prepare for the outages. The company apologised for any inconvenience caused and said the maintenance is part of its continuous efforts to provide reliable electricity to customers across the country.
