Kenya Power issues Sunday blackout notice affecting parts of 3 counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage on Sunday, October 5, 2025, that will affect parts of three counties across the country to allow for scheduled maintenance and system upgrades.
In a notice shared on Saturday, October 4, 2025, the company said the exercise will run between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m., targeting specific areas within the Central Rift, North Eastern, and Kiambu regions.

In the Central Rift Region, the outage will affect Mai Mahiu and its surrounding areas, including River Springs Hotel, Mayers, Namja, China Wu-Yi, Gold Stone Quarry, Manyata Quarry, Yellow Stones Quarry, Kingston Quarry, Ewaso Kedong Market, Najire Girls, Earth Station and adjacent customers.
“DATE: Sunday 05.10.2025 TIME: 8.00 Α.Μ. -5:00 P.M. River Springs Hotel, Mayers, Namja, China Wu-Yi, Gold Stone Quarry, Manyata Quarry, Yellow Stones Quarry, Kingston Quarry, Ewaso Kedong Mkt, Najire Girls, Earth Station & adjacent customers,” the statement read in part.
In Kiambu County, two separate areas will experience an interruption in power supply.
The first will be part of Limuru Town, covering the Bata Factory, Githongoti, Kwambira, Manguo, Ngarariga, Rufus, Ngarariga Girls, Murengeti, Nyambare, Jua Kali, Kirathimo, and Karanjee, alongside adjacent customers.
The second will include Witeithie, Ndarugu, and Kiahuria, affecting Compwera High, Thwasco Ngoingwa, parts of Ngoingwa, Witeithie, Thiwasco, Albizzia and nearby residents.

In the North Eastern Region, the entire Garissa Town and surrounding areas will be affected.
The blackout will impact government and institutional facilities, including the Regional Commissioner’s Office, the Governor’s Office, County Government offices, Bula Iftin, Bula Mzuri, Kunaso, County High, Garissa University, Modika Barracks, Garissa Solar Plant, Madogo, KBC, GO-TV, Mbalambala, Sankuri and adjacent customers.
Kenya Power stated that the planned maintenance will enable its engineers to conduct crucial network upgrades, replace ageing components, and strengthen transmission lines to reduce unplanned power interruptions in the future.
