Kenya Met issues weather forecast for next 7 days

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a 7-day forecast from June 10, 2025, to June 16, 2025, warning of contrasting weather patterns across the country.
In a post shared by the department on their official X account, dated June 10, 2025, they noted that while the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, and Western Kenya brace for persistent rainfall, the Coast and northern Kenya will endure scorching daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C.
“Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, and Western Kenya brace for persistent rainfall, while the Coast and northern Kenya will endure scorching daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C,” read a post in their official X account.

According to KMD, cumulative rainfall is expected to surpass 100 mm in the Central Highlands and Lake Victoria Basin, with moderate showers in the Rift Valley and coastal areas. This rainfall outlook reflects Kenya’s diverse microclimates, influenced by altitude and proximity to the Indian Ocean.
Meanwhile, the Coast and arid North-Eastern and North-Western regions will grapple with intense heat. The KMD’s temperature map shows maximum daytime temperatures climbing above 30°C, signalling potential health and agricultural challenges in these hot zones.
The coastal areas will also contend with strong winds, with speeds exceeding 25 knots (about 12.86 m/s) blowing from the south to southeast. These gusts could disrupt maritime activities and mirror the damaging winds of Tropical Storm Ialy in May 2024.
While Kenya faces a lower storm risk compared to its Indian Ocean neighbours, the department advises caution, especially for marine operators.
The department emphasised the need for vigilance as these extreme weather conditions unfold.
“Communities must stay alert and take precautions to protect livelihoods and property,” he said. KMD has urged the public to monitor its website, 5-day forecast updates, and WhatsApp channel for timely information.
This mixed weather outlook comes as a double-edged sword for Kenya’s economy. While the rains promise to boost crop and livestock production in the west and highlands, heatwaves in the Coast and north present risks of dehydration and crop stress.
As farmers, urban residents, and businesses brace for a week of weather extremes, the KMD’s advisory underscores the urgent need for preparedness. For many Kenyans, adapting to these shifting weather patterns will be crucial in the days ahead.
