Kenya Met forecasts increased rainfall this week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted increased rainfall in most parts of the country for this week, between April 15 to 21, 2025.

In its latest forecast, the weatherman says rainfall is likely to continue over several parts of the country. Isolated heavy rainfall events are expected over some parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, Southeastern lowlands and North-eastern Kenya.

The department says average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and around Mt Kilimanjaro.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley (Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties) should expect morning rains, giving way to sunny intervals.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places. Night showers are expected over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places.

North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties) should expect morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley (Nairobi County, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties) could experience cloudy mornings with light rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over few places occasionally spreading to several places.

North-eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties) could get morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms.

The South-eastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County) should expect cloudy mornings with light rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over few places.

The Coast (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County) should expect morning, afternoon and night showers.
