Kenya Airports Authority allay flight disruption fears amid workers’ strike notice
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has confirmed that all airports across the country are operating normally despite a strike notice issued by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU).
The authority moved to reassure passengers, airlines, and partners that services remain uninterrupted and operations are running smoothly.
In a statement released on Monday, September 29, 2025, on X, KAA acknowledged receipt of the strike notice, which was issued by KAWU on September 23, 2025. The authority stated that its priority is to ensure the highest standards of safety, security, and service delivery at all facilities nationwide.
“The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) acknowledges the receipt of a strike notice issued by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The Authority wishes to assure all passengers, airlines, and partners that our airports continue to operate as normal,” part of the statement read.
Union cites grievances
The assurance from KAA coincides with the announcement by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union, KAWU, that its members will cease operations on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
The union has raised several concerns, including the government’s failure to confirm airport employees on contract into permanent and pensionable terms.
KAWU also pointed out delays in overtime payments for staff at Wilson Airport. According to the union, employees working at the facility have not received overtime pay for over six months despite completing extra hours of work. The non-payment of lawful overtime remains one of the union’s strongest grievances.

Despite the strike threat, KAA has maintained that operations remain stable and uninterrupted. The authority further assured travellers and stakeholders that measures are in place to prevent disruptions to flights and other essential airport services.
The ongoing standoff has drawn attention to the welfare of aviation workers, many of whom continue to demand better terms of service and timely payment.
As negotiations progress, travellers have been advised to proceed with their plans as normal, with KAA reiterating that no disruption has been recorded so far.
The labour dispute highlights ongoing challenges in the aviation sector, but KAA has assured that passenger safety and service excellence remain at the core of its operations.
