KeNHA announces 9-hour traffic disruption on Eldoret bypass

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has notified the public of a planned nine-hour closure on the Eldoret bypass set for Saturday, November 22, 2025.

The advisory, shared on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, indicates that traffic will be halted between the Cheplaskei Interchange and Maili Tisa (Leseru).

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to inform the public of the temporary closure of the Eldoret Bypass (A8-North Road) from Cheplaskei Interchange to Maili Tisa (Leseru) Interchange on Saturday, November 22, 2025, between 6.00 AM and 3.00 PM,” part of the notice read.

“This is to allow for the 2025 Ceder Sports Academy cycling race.”

The closure will happen between 6 am to 3 pm to facilitate the 2025 Cedar Sports Academy cycling race.

Therefore, the motorists planning to traverse the route at that time have been urged to instead use the Cheplaskei-Maili Tisa (A8) Road section through the Eldoret City Central Business District (CBD).

The alternative route, also known as Uganda Road, is a key through-route for vehicles, especially long-distance trucks, bypassing Eldoret toward Nakuru, Malaba, and Uganda, with motorists urged to follow police and marshal guidance.

KenHA notice came days after it informed the public of a traffic disruption along the Thika-Kilimambogo (A3) Road at the Gatuanyaga (Delmonte Farms) section to allow for carriageway rehabilitation works.

Traffic disruptions

In a notice issued on Saturday, November 15, 2025, KeNHA stated that the works are scheduled from Friday, November 14, 2025, to Monday, December 1, 2025, daily.

The authority said both Kilimambogo-bound traffic and Thika-bound traffic will be diverted as indicated on the traffic diversion plan.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution around the work areas, follow the proposed traffic management plan, and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

According to the notice, Thika-bound vehicles will be rerouted via a side road to Gatuanyaga Market and back to the main road, while Kilimambogo-bound traffic will use a parallel service road.

The work zones will be clearly marked, and traffic marshals will be present to guide drivers through the diversions.

KeNHA emphasised that the carriageway rehabilitation is intended to improve road conditions along this section of the A3 highway.

The authority said, “Motorists are requested to exercise caution around the work areas, to follow the proposed traffic management plan, and to cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.”
