KeNHA announces temporary traffic disruption at Gitaru Interchange

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a public notice informing motorists of an upcoming traffic disruption at Gitaru Interchange due to the closure of the Southwestern Loop A8 to Southern Bypass at the intersection of A8.
In a public notice issued on Friday, June 27, 2025, the authority attributed the closure to scheduled roadworks for the reconstruction of the South-Western Interchange Ramp, Loops, and Slip Roads from Saturday, June 28, 2025, to Monday, August 11, 2025.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption due to the closure of the Southwestern Loop – A8 to Southern Bypass at the intersection of A8 (Waiyaki Way), Southern Bypass, and Western Bypass. This is due to scheduled roadworks for the reconstruction of the South-Western Interchange Ramp, loops, and slip roads from Saturday, 28th June 2025, to Monday, 11th August 2025,” KeNHA announced.
Alternative routes
In the notice, KeNHA stated that traffic from Waiyaki Way to the Southern Bypass would be diverted onto Kikuyu-Link Road at the Sigona Golf Club junction, approximately 1.5 km from the current interchange.
While motorists travelling from Nakuru to the Southern Bypass would be rerouted via the recently constructed Southeastern Loop and would then proceed onto the Southern Bypass through a temporary diversion located in the median of the bypass.
“Traffic may use the following alternative routes: Traffic from A8 (Waiyaki Way) to Southern Bypass will be diverted onto E1507 (Kikuyu-Link Road) at Sigona Golf Club junction, about 1.5 km from the current junction,” KeNHA advised.

“Traffic from Nakuru to the Southern Bypass will use the newly constructed Southeastern Loop and proceed to the Southern Bypass using a diversion constructed at the median of the Southern Bypass.”
The highway authority also indicated that traffic heading from the Western Bypass to Waiyaki Way should use the Muguku Interchange and then continue onto the Kikuyu-Link Road, joining A8 at the Sigona Golf Club junction.
“Traffic from Western Bypass to A8 Waiyaki Way will proceed to use the Muguku Interchange and proceed to use the Kikuyu link road (E1507) joining the A8 Road at Sigona Golf Club junction,” KeNHA added.
Advisory
KeNHA further urged motorists to comply with the traffic management plan, obey posted signs, and cooperate with on‑site police and traffic marshals throughout the construction period.
“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the traffic management plan, project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA advised.
These works are part of KeNHA’s broader effort to enhance connectivity, improve safety, and optimise traffic flow across this key interchange.
