Karen Nyamu rallies support behind Harambee Stars after draw with Angola

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has rallied support for Kenya’s national team, the Harambee Stars, following their spirited performance during the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
Taking to her official social media channels on Thursday night, August 7, 2025, shortly after Harambee Stars’ draw against Angola at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Nyamu commended the national team players.
She further expressed pride in the national team’s resilience and determination, despite the match ending in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
“Vijana walijituma si ati nini. A hard-fought draw, but the spirit of our boys was unmatched! On to the next one, Harambee Stars! We’re behind you all the way,” Nyamu said.

The vocal politician’s remarks come at a time when Harambee Stars are receiving renewed backing from leaders and the public as they prepare for their upcoming clash with Morocco.

Following the stellar performance, the team is set to bag Ksh500,000 from President William Ruto.
The match had everything: goals, a red card, VAR controversy, and relentless energy from both sides as they chased a spot in the knockout stage.
But Kenya responded swiftly. Just four minutes later, the referee pointed to the spot after a foul. Austin Odhiambo stepped up and confidently converted the penalty in the 11th minute, his second goal of the tournament, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

The momentum seemed to be swinging in Kenya’s favour until the 21st minute, when midfielder Marvin Nabwire received a straight red card following a VAR review. Initially booked with a yellow for a reckless tackle on Angola’s Além, the decision was upgraded to a red, reducing Kenya to ten men for the rest of the match.
The match showcased Kenya’s growing confidence and cohesion under pressure, as they managed to secure a valuable away point. With the return leg now in sight, the team will be looking to build on this performance and advance further in the competition.
