In a press statement on X on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the party said Moi’s nomination reflects KANU’s commitment to providing strong and people-centred leadership during what it described as a critical time for Baringo County.
“The Kenya African National Union (KANU) wishes to formally announce that, following extensive consultations, deliberations, and consensus within the party and with the people of Baringo, our National Chairman, Hon. Gideon Moi, has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Baringo Senatorial by-election,” the statement read.

The decision to field the party chairman also marks an important political moment, as Moi prepares to return to elective politics with the backing of his party and supporters.
KANU stated that Moi has expressed deep gratitude to both the party members and residents of Baringo for their patience and confidence in him. The party leadership emphasised that his candidacy will be anchored on inclusivity, accountability, and service to the people.
Party rallies behind Moi
KANU called on its supporters across Baringo and the wider country to rally behind Moi in what it described as a crucial electoral contest. The party expressed optimism that Moi’s experience and leadership will resonate strongly with voters in the county.
According to the statement, Moi intends to run a campaign focused on addressing the challenges facing the people of Baringo while promoting unity and development.
The by-election is expected to draw attention both locally and nationally, given Moi’s stature and long association with Kenyan politics.
KANU also assured the electorate that the nomination was a result of careful consideration and wide consultations, highlighting the importance of consensus in ensuring a strong campaign.
The Baringo Senatorial by-election is expected to be closely watched as Moi, who previously served as Senator, makes his return to the political arena. His entry has already sparked discussion about the role KANU will play in shaping political direction in the region.
