Kang’ata faults police for abrupt arrest of MCA ahead of crucial event

Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata has faulted the police over the manner in which they arrested Kanyenya-ini ward MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, alias City.
Taking to his official social media accounts on the night of Thursday, May 29, 2025, Kang’ata stated that it would have been better if a summons had been issued before the abrupt arrest of the MCA.
The Murang’a County boss further stated that Wairimu was set to grace the opening of the first farmers’ avocado factory in Murang’a.
“The police have now confirmed Hon. Grace City Kanyenyaini Kangema MCA is in their custody. It would have been better if a summon was issued before the abrupt arrest. She was meant to grace the opening of the 1st farmers’ avocado factory, Murang’a,” Kang’ata stated.

DCI on MCA’s arrest
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of the MCA.
DCI, in a statement issued on the evening of Thursday, May 29, 2025, confirmed that Wairimu was in their custody over her links to Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi, who is being investigated for reportedly stage-managing his own abduction.

The anti-crime agency clarified that Wairimu had not been abducted as circulated on social media but had been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the reported stage-managed abduction of Koimburi.
“The attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been drawn to reports circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Grace Nduta Wairimu. We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu, MCA representing Kanyenya-ini ward in Murang’a County, was arrested today, May 29, 2025, as part of an ongoing investigation on the stage-managed abduction of Hon George Koimburi,” the DCI stated.
Links with Koimburi
The DCI went ahead to state that the MCA was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Koimburi on May 25, 2025, the entire night.
“It has been confirmed that, despite her claims of being in Kangema and attending church services and political rallies on May 25, 2025, evidence clearly shows that she was at the Ellis Bar and Restaurant in Kiganjo, Gatundu South, with Hon. George Koimburi the entire night. Further updates will be shared as the investigation continues,” the DCI statement read.
Kang’ata had earlier raised the alarm over the disappearance of Wairimu, stating that she was picked up by unknown persons under very unclear circumstances.
In a statement shared on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Kang’ata stated that unconfirmed claims had circulated suggesting that the MCA had been taken to Samuru Police Post in Gatanga.
Acting promptly, the governor confirmed that he had made a personal visit to the said police post to verify the matter, but she was not found there.
“Hon City MCA Kanyenyaini Kangema has been picked up by unknown persons. Unconfirmed reports had suggested she is in the Samuru Police Post, Gatanga. I have visited the post to no avail,” Kang’ata stated.
