Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) George Peter Kaluma has called for justice following the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang, a 31-year-old teacher and X influencer who died while in police custody at Central Police Station in Nairobi.

Taking to his official X account on the night of Monday, June 9, 2025, Kaluma questioned the circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death and demanded accountability from law enforcement, as well as justice for his family.

He described the incident as not only tragic but also a serious breach of human rights and police responsibility.

“Albert Ojwang was taken from the family by the police, driven to Nairobi by the police, killed while in police custody, and given back to the family dead! What would justice be to his parents, to whom he was the only child? To his wife and to his infant child! UNACCEPTABLE!”Kaluma wrote.

Appeal for justice

Kabondo Kasipul MP Eve Akinyi Obara has also issued a passionate call for justice after the tragic death of Ojwang.

Ojwang died under disturbing circumstances while in police custody at the Central Police Station in Nairobi, sparking outrage.

In an official letter dated Monday, June 9, 2025, Obara called on key oversight and human rights bodies such as the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), and other relevant investigative agencies to launch a thorough and independent investigation into the incident.

The MP said that Ojwang had died at the hands of those who were duty-bound to protect his life, adding that it was not just a tragedy but also a breach of trust and a failure of justice.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi also urged the security agencies to move fast and take appropriate action against culprits.

“As a parent, the news of the death of Albert Ojwang has left me speechless. I can’t imagine the pain his family is going through now. Security agencies must move fast and take appropriate action against culprits,” Sudi wrote on X.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MPs led by Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo have also called for urgent action.
