Kaluma criticizes Gachagua’s newly formed party slogans

Homa Bay town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) slogans.
In a statement on X on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Kaluma stated that DCP’s slogans only find space in Kenyan politics when the head of state is not from the Mt Kenya region.
“Must go, passing cloud, and one term are slogans that find space in Kenya’s politics only when the president is not from Mt. Kenya,” the statement read.
“The only times these slogans have been used are during the Moi and now Ruto presidencies. Remember, Moi is a passing cloud! Moi must go. The terms were never used against Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki or Uhuru Kenyatta – the worst presidents Kenya has ever had!” the statement continued.
DCP Party
Gachagua officially launched a new political party on May 15, 2025, anchored on the slogan ‘Skiza Wakenya’, after his exit from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony held in Nairobi, Gachagua described the party as a home for all Kenyans who feel unheard under the current administration.

He emphasised that DCP will prioritise inclusive leadership rooted in public feedback.
“I made a promise to unveil a new political party in May 2025. As you all know, I am a truthful man who keeps his word. Today, that promise is fulfilled,” Gachagua said.
The party’s symbol is a listening ear, while its colours are neon green, brown, and white. According to Gachagua, the symbolism underscores the party’s core principle of actively engaging with the public in decision-making.
He said ‘Skiza Wakenya‘ was conceived as a direct response to what he described as growing public frustration over unmet promises and a government that no longer listens.
“Our slogan is Skiza Wakenya, but if Kenyans wish, they can call it Skiza Ground. Either way, the message is clear: leaders must listen,” he said.
Further, he emphasised that DCP will be a platform for every Kenyan, regardless of social class or political history.
“This party belongs to all of us, where every Kenyan is treated equally. At no time under our leadership will any citizen feel ignored or left behind,” he added.
He committed to running a party that listens deliberately and sustainably, promising that DCP would always act on the concerns of the people.
The launch of DCP comes as Gachagua aligns himself with other opposition leaders, including Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Party, Fred Matiang’i, and Eugene Wamalwa of DAP-K, positioning the party as a rallying force in the run-up to the 2027 general election.
