Kalonzo welcomes Tanzanian leaders at JKIA ahead of Raila’s funeral
The Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed receiving visiting dignitaries from Tanzania at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of the late Raila Odinga’s state funeral.
Through a post on X on Friday, October 17, 2025, Kalonzo said that he had the honour of welcoming the former President of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, and the Vice President, Philip Mpango, who arrived in Nairobi to pay their last respects to the late Raila Odinga.

Kalonzo receives guests at JKIA
“This morning at JKIA, I had the honour of welcoming former President of Tanzania, H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, and the Vice President, H.E. Philip Mpango, who came to Nairobi to pay their last respects to their dear brother and friend, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, EGH.
“Their presence shows just how deeply Raila’s life touched people beyond our borders,” Kalonzo said.
He added that Raila was not only a political icon in Kenya but also a continental figure whose influence and relationships extended across Africa.

“These are truly heavy days for me and for our nation. I have lost more than a political ally; I have lost a brother and a friend.
“We walked together through moments of struggle, hope, and belief in a better Kenya,” he added.
Kalonzo cancels UK trip
The statement comes just a day after Kalonzo’s secretariat confirmed that he had cancelled his UK tour to return to Kenya ahead of the late Raila’s funeral.
According to the Wiper Presidential Secretariat, Kalonzo departed from Heathrow International Airport in London on Thursday evening.
A statement signed by Zein Abubakar, Head of the SKM Presidential Secretariat, indicated that Kalonzo was expected to arrive at JKIA on Friday at 6:00 a.m. to join Raila’s family, friends, and other leaders.

The late Raila Odinga’s State Funeral is set to take place at the Nyayo National Stadium, drawing local and international dignitaries, including several heads of state.
DP Kithure Kindiki earlier confirmed that all guests must be seated by 8 a.m. for the ceremony, which will include military honours, prayers, and tributes from leaders.
The late Raila Odinga’s death has united Kenyans and the African continent in mourning a man widely regarded as a champion of democracy and justice.
