Kalonzo: I’m ready to pay any price to block Ruto’s second term

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has vowed to do everything possible to prevent President William Ruto from securing a second term in 2027 election.
Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi on Saturday, August 9, 2025, Kalonzo said the opposition’s mission to unite Kenyans and rid the country of “corruption, harsh taxes, and bad governance” remains steadfast.
“We want to assure our supporters who believe William Ruto and his failed regime should be a one-time president that our focus has only grown sharper and our resolve stronger,” Kalonzo said. “This is a journey we are all totally committed to travel together for the next two years or under two years.”

Kalonzo was firm in dismissing claims that opposition leaders could be bribed, intimidated, or compromised to abandon their cause.
“Anyone thinking that I, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugena Amalo, Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Fred Matiangi, or any other of our colleagues in the United Opposition will be bought or intimidated is clearly daydreaming,” he said.
He urged Kenyans to stand firm with the opposition, promising they will never abandon the fight for good governance, accountability, integrity in public service, and respect for the rule of law and constitutionalism.

“We are in this together, to the end, to rid this country of this corrupt, broad-based government,” he said. “We are prepared to make any sacrifice, bear any burden, and pay any price to complete this mission.”
The Wiper leader’s remarks reflect a deepening resolve within the United Opposition to mount a strong challenge against President Ruto’s administration, which they accuse of failing to deliver on key promises.
Kalonzo’s statement comes amid growing political realignments as Kenya prepares for its next general election, with the opposition uniting to present a formidable front against the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition
