Kalekye Mumo opens up about her weight loss journey as she nears target

Media personality Kalekye Mumo has shared an update on her weight loss journey, revealing that she is now just 1.6kg away from reaching her target weight.
On Monday, July 13, 2026, she said the progress has been meaningful, not only because of the number on the scale but also because of the lessons she has learned along the way.
Kalekye explained that there was a time when reaching this point seemed impossible. She said looking back, she can now see how far she has come and appreciates every step that has led her closer to her goals.

“The finish line is in sight. There was a time when this felt so far away that I couldn’t even imagine saying these words out loud. Today, I am just 1.6kg away from my target weight,” Kalekye Mumo said.
Lessons from the journey
Kalekye said the experience changed the way she thinks about health and fitness. She explained that she discovered many common beliefs she once had were not true and that the journey taught her more than she expected.
“And while I’m excited about the number, what I’m most grateful for is everything that happened along the way. I’ve learnt that carbs are not the enemy. That protein shakes aren’t just for bodybuilders. That strength training doesn’t make you bulky. That the scale isn’t the whole story. And that sometimes the biggest victories are the ones you feel before you see them,” she said.

She also spoke about the physical improvements she has experienced during the journey. Kalekye said feeling stronger, having more energy and becoming more comfortable in her body have been just as important as losing weight.
“Being able to move better. Getting stronger. Having more energy. Feeling comfortable in my body again. Getting back into heels. Sitting cross-legged with ease. Those wins matter just as much as the number on the scale,” Kalekye Mumo said.
“Thank you to the incredible team for walking this journey with me, challenging my assumptions and helping me build habits that I can actually sustain for life. The finish line is close… but the journey to becoming healthier, stronger and more intentional with my body doesn’t end there. 1.6kg to go,” she said.
