Kalonzo dares govt to arrest Gachagua

Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dared the President William Ruto-led government to arrest his opposition counterpart and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Kalonzo slammed National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, daring him to make true his threats to have Gachagua arrested.
The former vice president further argued that the 13th parliament has failed in its mandate.
“Kumbuka huyu kiongozi was walio wengi bungeni ambaye alikuwa mwenzangu katika NADCO, Kimani Ichung’wah, ambaye sasa anarukwa na maneno akisema Gachagua kila kuchao, ati akamatwe. Akamatwe kwanini? Wajaribu kumkamata Gachagua,” Kalonzo stated.
Loosely translated as: “Remember this Leader of the Majority in Parliament, Kimani Ichung’wah, who was my colleague in NADCO, is now getting carried away, attacking Gachagua every other day, saying he should be arrested. Arrested for what? Let them try arresting Gachagua.”
Kalonzo defends Gachagua
He went ahead to say that should Gachagua get arrested, he will be at the forefront defending him in the court as a senior counsel.
Kalonzo argues that if the state has any evidence that Gachagua has committed a crime, it should stop tarnishing his name and instead arrest him, bring forward witnesses, and prosecute him.
“Mimi nitakuwa kwa mahakama nikimtetea straight, kama senior counsel. Kama una ushahidi kwamba Gachagua amefanya madhambi, wacha kumharibia jina, mshike, mlete mahakamani, ulete hawa mashahidi wako, tuangalie what exactly are you talking about,” he said.
Loosely translated as: “I’ll be in court defending him directly as a senior counsel. If you have evidence that Gachagua has committed any wrongdoing, stop tarnishing his name—arrest him, bring him to court, and present your witnesses so we can see exactly what you’re talking about.”
Accusations against Gachagua
Since exiting government by way of impeachment, leaders allied to President William Ruto have been accusing Gachagua of sponsoring violence in the country.

The government allies have always been shifting blame on the former DP whenever violence is witnessed during anti-government protests, including during the most recent Gen Z memorial protests.
However, Gachagua has always denied any involvement.
