Kakan Maiyo vows to speak truth more wisely after DCI arrest

Businessman Godfrey Mwasiaga Kakan Maiyo has vowed to remain courageous in speaking truth to power despite his recent arrest by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
However, speaking at a local TV station on Friday, July 25, 2025, he acknowledged that the experience has taught him the importance of choosing his words carefully.
“My courage has not been interfered with; I am still bold. I will speak my mind, but of course I will be wise in the way I speak it because when you are speaking the truth to power, you must be cautious of the consequences of it,” he said.
Maiyo noted that many people in positions of authority are not receptive to criticism. He emphasised the need to package truth in a way that leaders can grasp without resorting to retaliation.
“This is because most of the people in power are not wise, and the problem of speaking the truth to a ‘fool’ is that they will take it as an insult, and the reaction will be different. I have to find a way to speak in a manner that those in power will understand what we are saying,” he added.
The arrest
The businessman who operates the LetaPeleka Logistics business within the Nairobi CBD was released on a cash bail of Ksh10,000 on July 11, 2025, after spending two nights in custody at Muthaiga Police Station.
Maiyo was initially scheduled to be arraigned in Milimani but was instead returned to the station.
Confirming his arrest, the DCI stated that he was arrested following the circulation of a viral TikTok video in which he is accused of inciting violence against police officers and their families.
In a statement issued by the DCI in the early hours of Thursday, July 10, 2025, the authorities confirmed that Maiyo was traced to a discreet office located within Kimathi House in Nairobi, where he operated his business.

“Godfrey Mwasiaga Kakan Maiyo, the suspect behind a viral video inciting violence against police officers and their families, has been arrested. The video had been uploaded to his TikTok account,” the DCI said.
