Kajiado County is set to become of one the key battlegrounds for politicians seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2022 race for State House.

Just last week on Saturday, Deputy President William Ruto toured the county banking on 2017 success in which the region and community widely supported him and President Uhuru Kenyatta when they ran for a second term on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Already, Kajiado’s seasoned politician Daniel Tinaai, who came second in the Kajiado senatorial election in 2017, has defected to DP Ruto’s TangaTanga wing with a number of other leaders.

Tinaai was an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) but lost to Philip Mpaayei of Jubilee who got 169,273 votes, representing 52% of the ballots cast.

Now, the formidable politician has expressed interest in working with Ruto in the forthcoming elections, ditching ODM in a move he termed tactical.

Tinaai accused his former party leader, Raila Odinga, of being unfriendly and forgetting after he won him many votes in the last election.

Deputy President speaking on Saturday accused Raila of meddling in Jubilee politics, saying he brought disunity in a party that took long to forge.

The other leaders who spoke at the Kajiado rally also accused Raila and President Kenyatta of working to sideline Ruto and his allies in the government.

Led by Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen accused Raila footsoldiers such as James Orengo of having been silenced by the handshake and no longer holding the government to account.

Isiolo Woman Rep, Rehema Jaldesa, claimed that Amani National Congress had hatched a plot to impeach DP Ruto.

The rally was also attended by Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
