Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 2 counties on Wednesday, January 21
Kenya Power has announced that there will be a scheduled power outage across two different counties on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Through a statement on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the utility firm stated that parts of Kajiado and Kericho counties would be affected.
These planned interruptions are a critical component of Kenya Power’s broader network management strategy, which aims to improve the quality of electricity supply through routine maintenance and the upgrading of existing infrastructure.

Kenya Power advised people living within the affected areas to plan ahead of time. The specific areas affected include:
Kajiado County
In Kajiado County, the scheduled power maintenance will take place in the Ongata Rongai area on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The interruption will affect the whole of Gataka Road, starting from Masai Mall, including Kisumu Ndogo, Beacon of Hope, Nakeel Schools, and the Oloolaiser Water Offices.
Residents and businesses along Wanugu/Melonye Road, Barizi, Kwa Mwai, and Gataka Shopping Center including Oloolua Forest, Mayor Road, and the Hass Petrol Station, should also expect outages during this period.

These maintenance works are essential for maintaining grid stability in rapidly growing peri-urban areas where the demand for reliable energy continues to rise.
Kericho County
In Kericho County, the maintenance work is scheduled for parts of Kuresoi North on the same day, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The specific locations affected include Murundu Market, Kibaraa Market, Kipkoris Market, Kipkewa Market, Kongoi Market, Mawingu Market, and Koraboriet Market.
Such updates are part of Kenya Power’s commitment to modernising the regional grid to support local economies and ensure long-term operational efficiency.
Additionally, these routine maintenance exercises are part of a strategic initiative to minimise unexpected equipment failures, optimise the national grid’s performance, and support the growing energy demands of residents.
