Jubilee clarifies on Uhuru-chaired council fronting candidate for Mbeere North polls

The Jubilee Party has moved swiftly to clarify its position amid swirling speculation that the National Executive Council (NEC), chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, had issued nomination papers to a candidate for the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election.
Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge, in a statement on Friday, September 12, 2025, stated unequivocally that the party will not field any candidate for the vacant seat and will instead stand firmly behind the joint opposition candidate.
“As the Deputy Organizing Secretary of the Jubilee Party, I wish to set the record straight. The National Executive Council (NEC), which is chaired by H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, has not issued nomination papers to any aspirant for the Mbeere North parliamentary by-election,” Pauline said.
She warned the public to disregard all contrary reports as baseless hearsay.
“The Jubilee Party will not be fielding a candidate in this race. Instead, we will stand firmly behind the joint opposition candidate. Take this to the bank, and treat all other claims as pure hearsay,” Pauline added.

The Mbeere North seat fell vacant following the appointment of former MP Geoffrey Ruku as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, triggering a high-stakes by-election in the region.
In recent weeks, the contest has witnessed dramatic developments, including party realignments, candidate defections, and strategic withdrawals.
The most recent development is when the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) officially withdrew from the race and announced its support for the Democratic Party (DP) candidate, led by former Speaker Justin Muturi.
During a press briefing at the DCP headquarters on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the party leadership explained that the decision was intended to allow the DP to retain a seat it had previously held and to ensure continuity for its candidate to complete a full term.
The DCP also indicated its support for the Wiper Party in the Muguni Ward by-election and for the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) in the Chwele Kabuchai Ward in Bungoma.
The DCP withdrawal came days after its Mbeere North candidate, Duncan Mbui, who also serves as MCA for Evurore Ward, defected to Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi party.
Mbui stated that his former party had been influenced by constituent parties within the United Opposition not to field a candidate in the by-election, a decision he described as undermining his political ambition.
“I have been watching with a keen eye the goings-on at the DCP party and have come to the conclusion that the party is a members’ club within the so-called ‘United Opposition’,” he said.
Despite leaving the party, Mbui has received public backing from Moses Kuria, who has actively campaigned for him across the constituency.
Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, previously aligned with the DCP candidate, also pledged to continue supporting Mbui regardless of his new political affiliation.
