Cabinet secretary nominee for the Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development Geoffrey Ruku has declared his net worth at Ksh377 million.

Speaking when he appeared before the Moses Wetang’ula-led Parliamentary Committee on Appointments on Monday, April 14, 2024, the Mbeere North Member of Parliament (MP) broke down his wealth, which he said is made up of land and buildings, a family residence, Sacco savings, shares from a private company, and motor vehicles.

Ruko further expounded that his land and buildings are worth Ksh40 million, a family residence worth Ksh60 million, and sacco savings adding up to Ksh15 million.

He went ahead to reveal that he holds shares in a private company worth Ksh 250 million. Ruku also revealed that he owns motor vehicles worth Ksh12 million.

“Land and buildings worth about Ksh40 million, a family residence worth Ksh60 million, sacco and savings worth Ksh15 million, shares from a private company worth Ksh250 million, motor vehicles worth about Ksh12 million, a total of Ksh377 million,” Ruku said.

Ruku was picked by President William Ruto to replace former Attorney General Justin Muturi who had fallen out with the head of state over his stance on abductions and extrajudicial killings.

Ruku’s political career

Ruku’s political dream began in 2002 when he vied for the Nthawa Ward Councillor seat only to be rejected at the ballot. In 2013, he tried another stab at politics when he aimed for the Siakago parliamentary seat, but he was unsuccessful again.

In 2017, he lost the Jubilee Party nomination for Embu Senator to Njeru Ndwiga. In a bold move, he switched gears, abandoning the senatorial race to make another attempt at the MP seat as an independent candidate.

Yet again, he was defeated by an incumbent, Muriuki Njagagua. In 2022, Ruku ran on the Justin Muturi-led Democratic Party (DP) ticket. Against all odds, he dethroned Njagagua, securing his long-coveted parliamentary seat.

After his election in 2022, in Parliament, he became one of the Kenya Kwanza government’s fiercest defenders, absorbing criticism and championing Ruto’s policies with unmatched zeal.
