The birthday party of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Tanzanian-based singer Rayvanny was not meant to happen, details have emerged.

Speaking during the bash, held at a city hotel, ODM leader Raila Odinga revealed that the Machakos County boss informed him on Saturday, August 21,  that plans were underway to see the bash cancelled over fear of breaching Covid-19 protocols.

Raila said he intervened and made phone calls to relevant authorities to have the party held as scheduled.

“Alfred called me and told me that he had turned 51 and was celebrating his birthday for the first time. He informed me that he had invited many friends all over the world and expressed worry over the scheduled party owing to the prevailing Covid-19 protocols. I spent a big part of last night (Saturday) reaching out to relevant authorities to ensure the function proceeds as planned,” Raila said.

The ODM leader, who shared a birthday breakfast with Mutua on Sunday morning before the main event, stated that birthdays above 50 are specials and worth a celebration.

“I had an occasion to celebrate with Alfred earlier today his birthday in my residence, but I told him that I would be coming here in spite of a very heavy schedule. I told Alfred that birthdays are special occasions, but specifically a birthday above 50…because that is when life begins.

“I told him that the difference between the old and the young is only one; the young do not know what it means to be old, but the old know what it means to be young because they were once young. Between them is something called experience, that is the difference,” Raila added.

The Governor’s party went on all well and was joined by his ex-wife Lilian Ng’ang’a, who they recently parted ways with.

Several Kenyan politicians and media personalities attended the event
