Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha saved embattled lawyer Assa Nyakundi from pleading to murder charges over the killing of his son.

The lawyer was expected to plead to the charges on Monday, August 12, 2019, a day which was declared a public holiday to allow Muslims celebrate the festival.

However, the defence appeared before High Court Deputy Registrar Mukami Wachira on Tuesday who directed that the case to be mentioned on August 28 before the duty judge for further directions.

Mr Nyakundi has since filed three other applications challenging Justice Jessie Lessit’s order to have him plead to the murder charge.

But last month his lawyers led by John Khaminwa failed in their bid to block his plea taking.

Mr Nyakundi is expected to answer to charges of killing his son by shooting.

The lawyer is alleged to have killed his son on March 17, in Nairobi County in an incident he told police was accidental.

Mr Nyakundi was charged with manslaughter before the Kiambu magistrate’s court on April 26 and released on a cash bail of Sh300,000.
