Just hours after her expulsion from the UDA party, a move that effectively ends her nomination, Senator Gloria Orwoba took to social media on Monday, May 19, 2025, to address her supporters in Bobasi Constituency.

Speaking to them in vernacular, she urged them to remain calm and not to be distracted by her expulsion.

“Bobasi Constituency tuko imara. Abanto baminto…Nonde moyo!” Orwoba said.

Loosely translated to; “We are strong, my people… guard your hearts!”

Despite the setback, Orwoba remains undeterred, telling her constituents not to worry about her exit from the ruling party.

According to her, the focus should now be on the future, as she prepares to mount a serious bid for the MP seat in the upcoming general election.

The statement comes days after Orwoba publicly announced her intention to contest the Bobasi parliamentary seat in 2027, where she said that this is the last time she is serving in the nomination capacity, further stating that she has done enough for the party and now wants to vie for the Bobasi parliamentary seat.

Orwoba’s expulsion

Orwoba was expelled from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Monday, May 19, 2025, following a decision by the party’s Disciplinary Committee, ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

The expulsion was based on allegations of disloyalty and breaches of the party’s Code of Conduct, primarily due to her association with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, a potential 2027 presidential candidate and opposition figure.

Specific instances cited include her presence at Matiang’i’s welcome at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on April 17, 2025, and his homecoming event at Gusii Stadium, as well as her criticism of President William Ruto’s labour mobility program during a Spice FM interview on April 22, 2025.

UDA accused Orwoba of showing allegiance to another political movement, which they deemed incompatible with party loyalty.

The party notified Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, the Registrar of Political Parties, and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to initiate her removal from the Senate.

UDA nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili, Bungoma County, to replace her, based on the party’s nomination list from the 2022 elections.

Orwoba had previously obtained a High Court order on May 16, 2025, from Justice Lawrence Mugambi, suspending the UDA disciplinary proceedings, arguing they were a politically motivated “witch hunt” to oust her.

She claimed the process lacked transparency and was marred by procedural irregularities, such as the summons being issued before a formal complaint. Despite this, UDA proceeded with her expulsion.
